I bought a KZ 650 built in 11/77.

It has KZ 650 SR on the left side cover and KZ 650 on the right.
The serial number is KZ650D 0020XX.

Does anyone know what bike this is. It has mag wheels and dual disk up front that are not drilled.

I would like to eBay a few parts off this bike and would like to list it correctly.

Thanks in advance.

This is not stock paint. Roy

From the info you have provided it would appear to be a 1978D1 or SR model. If you notice there is a D in the vin number. So the SR side cover is correct but the other is from a different model most like a c as it has a bump for the rear master cylinder. The SRs do not have a tail section over a chrome fender - rather a painted fender.

I should have also passed on a couple of other sites that are about the KZ650 where you can gain lots of very useful info on them.

And yet more from Wikipedia:
1978 KZ650-D1/D1A
Starting frame Number D1: Unknown D1A:KZ650D-003440
This was actually the first "SR" model released and the D1A was sold in North America only. The D1 may/may have been sold only in Japan but this is unknown. It featured a lot of the equipment from the C model but with the substitution of a 16" rear wheel, deletion of the tailpiece (which was such a trademark of the B/C models) and an entirely different seat with a "tuck and roll" appearance to give it the full-on "chopper" look. As well, the fuel tank shape was completely different from the B/C models and more in keeping with the "chopper" look. As well, the D model featured rubber mounted two bolt style footpegs. All other models used a single bolt rigid style peg setup until the 1979 models. The only colour available was candy persimmon red and both front and rear fenders were painted to match the tank and side covers. See D2 model writeup below for additional details.

Good Fortune! :)

Thanks for the replies. I'll use a lot of the parts as spares.

I am going to install the dual disk on my bike.

Also the front wheel so I will have a matching set on my bike. Roy

Do yourself a favor and compare the rotor size of the D (SR) with your LTD (assume that's the one you're talking about) before taking anything apart.

Also measure the distance from the front axle to the caliper mounts on both bikes.

I'm not really familiar with the 1000 LTD so I could be wrong, but I believe the SR rotors are smaller than the 1000 rotors and that the SR caliper mounts are positioned lower on the fork leg, you might run into an issue with part of the brake pads not contacting the rotors.

John (Bluemeanie) ran into this problem when replacing the frontend on his 650 F, there's a thread about it somewhere.

Thanks for the heads up. If I run into trouble I'll just use the front end off the 650 or parts there of.

I got a chance to tear the bike down. The seat and exhaust are a big question. The seat has stickers for 1980 models.

If anyone needs some parts just let me know. Roy
