I have a 1983 KZ 440 LTD and I am looking to buy a drive belt for it and I see they have listed a 125T and a 129T how do I know which to get? Is there a real big deal if you buy the wrong one like size or it slipping??

Thanks
jason

If you can find a service manual it should tell you. My '82 has 129 teeth, and that was a change in late '81 from the previous 125 teeth, so I'm guessing that you'd need the 129, but the service manual will have the final answer.

The number of teeth on the belt may be related to the the size of the pulleys.
The 125T will have one size of pulleys, while the 129 will have a different setup.

Taking a stab at it.... I guess that's right... too lazy right now to check out the diagrams at the Kaw site.

Kawasaki.com says 1983 KZ440-D5 (LTD Belt)
is part # 59011-1009 BELT,DRIVE,129T,
still listed as "active" and used on 4 models:

KZ440-D3 (LTD Belt) (1981)
KZ440-D4 (LTD Belt) (1982)
KZ440-D5 (LTD Belt) (1983)
KZ440-G1 (1982)

This particular diagram shows only the 129 tooth belt,
and doesn't refer to other models.

Would defer to the FSM if it specifies a different number of teeth for a particular model.

If available, would also count number of teeth on the existing belt.

Good Fortune! :)

And, as I suspected, the different belts are used w different sprockets/pulleys.

Perhaps the Diagram is covering the parts list that usually appears below the diagram.

While viewing the diagram, could try using mouse to drag the bottom line upward, and hopefully expose the parts listing. See pic below.

Put mouse pointer on the bottom line.
Should see a small double-ended arrow appear on the line.
Hold down the left mouse clicker.
Move the line upward (hopefully) to expose the parts list.

Let us know if this works.

Good Fortune! :)

When both diagram and parts list are showing onscreen, each has its own separate scroll bar.
