Oil Cooler for a KZ1100 A1 was created by daveal
I would like to install an oil cooler on my KZ1100 A1 and I would like to make it look stock. A few questions I have are:
1. Where are the hoses to the cooler connected to the engine?
2. I was looking at getting a used cooler off of another KAW that takes banjo type fittings in lieu of barbed. Would the cooler have to be off the same sized engine?
3. Will the cooler add addition pressure drop to the oiling system.
4. I would like to use a braided SS type hose. Where can these be sourced?
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Dave

If the engine is stock it will not make any use of the cooler oil. I am running that engine with an1150 kit and some other heavy duty work in the performance department and I am not running a cooler. Even on hot days I have not had any problems.

Just for the sake of argument, let's suppose that I was going to install a turbo, and I needed to install an oil cooler, what would be the answers to my original questions?
Thanks, Dave

My GPz comes from the factory with an aux oil cooler. The oil plate cover down near the cam chain adjuster is what the oil cooler lines bolt to. I have a complete Gpz oil cooler setup i'll sell if you want to convert.

I picked up Steel braided hoses and all necessary fittings through JEGS automotive. I am sure other automotive outlets can get these parts as well.
Good Luck!

On my KZ1000 Im using a Swedish made Satrab oil coolerwith a one off fabbed mount. The lines and fittings came from a specialty pumps, valves and hoses shop in town, and Im using a GPz oil return cover.I ran my hoses up and over the engine so they cant be seen from the outside.I use Goodyear oil lines and barbed fittings and never had a leak,Have to look hard to even see that the bike has a cooler.I have oil temp amd oil pressure gauges on the bike-no drop in oil pressure and the cooler does help with oil temp on hot days.bj

I would be interested in talking to you some more about the cooler you have. What sort of connection do the hoses have to the cooler? When I get back from vacation and my bike is at hand, I'll have a few more questions.
Thanks, Dave

I got back from vacation, took care of a computer glitch, took grand kids to soccer games and now I'm back.

I looked at my KZ for the oil line connection points you mentioned. Right below the cam chain tensioner is the oil pressure sending switch which is mounted on a housing that has a plugged opening. I take it that this is the connection point for the oil supply line to the cooler. To the rear of that, in the engine case is a round ring with a slight depression that is cast into the case. Is this the location for the oil return line, or is there another possible location?

Thanks, Dave
