Want to get rid of air forks
21 Sep 2010 05:58
I tried searching but only came up with a thread or two and still have some questions
Do caps from non-air forks fit the air forks? If I am going to dump the air I might as well change the caps if it can be done.
I read someone had used PVC spacers for preload, is the PVC safe? Wont crack, deteriorate and leave shavings in the tube?
Is there a replacement spring so the spacer can be avoided?
Any reason NOT to get rid of the air? Currently it will only hold pressure for about a week.

Yes Progressive has a set of springs for all of our bikes. The springs are variable rate, so they get stiffer as the fork compresses. Z1E can get them for you.

By the way. Many of the Progressive springs also come with PVC spacers. I used a set of old valve springs as an additional pre-load on top of my springs. But why would you want to get rid of the air suspension?

They currently leak down over time and I like things simple. No more worrying with it.

I removed the aircaps from my front forks. Replaced with normal caps and progressive springs. Works fine.
