1976 KZ400D3 parts swap was created by Kitten Tooth
Im starting a cafe build with my 81' KZ1000LTD.. I was going to use the tripple tree, forks, swingarm, rear shocks, brakes, wheels and tires off the the KZ400 that i just bought and put them on my KZ1000. So far, the only things that im worried about seting up is the swingarm and the tripple tree. I check the diameter of the fork tubes and they're too small to fit into the stock triple tree on my KZ1000. If i swap tripletrees, do i have to get bigger bearings of bushings or something to that affect to fit them into the headtube of the kz1000 frame? Also, if the swingarm is too small do i need bushings or spacers to fit it?

I'm no expert, but I really don't think that is a good idea. That will make the bike very dangerous to ride, in my opinion.

The KZ400 forks are only 33mm. They will flex like crazy when hitting bumps and especially braking. The frame and suspension on the 400 are really only up to the task of a small bike.

Why exactly are you wanting to swap these parts? Are the original 1000 parts bad?

   :silly:

Did someone fall on their head?
On my KZ400 I went to 36 mm forks and a 55 swingarm.
It makes no sence to go smaller (ie. weaker).

I wanted the single disk brake and spoke wheels on the front... Is there a way to swap out wheels? both front and back. I thought they looked cooler:D

Could i just swap out wheels? i like the look of the spokes better and i think that single disc in the front looks really sharp too. The only thing i was worried about was the rear sprocket being off centered from the output sprocket with that smaller wheel.
