What does this part do?

It's labeled a Rod-Torque part # 43007 in this diagram.

The reason I ask is that the bolt that holds one end on has just fallen off my motorcycle and I'm not at home.

Can I ride for a few miles without this? At highway speed? It sure doesn't look like much. But looks can be deceiving.

Without a way to restain the rear brake drum, driving in my opinion would be dangerous due to having the drum spin/move around the rear axle during braking.

The torque links serve a purpose, driving without them removed/gone should not be attempted.

This would be extremely dangerous, do not attempt it. The first time you touch the rear brakes the rear wheel is going to lock solid, the faster you are travelling the worse it's going to be.
Is there not an auto garage, or parts shop, close to where you are, so you could get a high tensile bolt to replace the missing one??

Thanks for the advice. I got a friend to drive to a nearby car mechanic shop. Fortunately I had the bolt, it was still in there, it was just the nut that was missing.

Auto mech fixed me up with a nut but he couldn't find a cotter pin to keep in in place. We used a little key ring instead. It got me home.
