Back Seat solution for kz1000P was created by Mike Mecredy
About 3 weeks ago I picked up this 1997, retired cop bike at a pretty good deal. I rode it home and really liked it but there was no passenger seat. I have a wife that likes to ride with me, and a duaghter, (my boys don't want to though they think it's weird.) I search the net high and low and couldn't find anything in production to fit that bike without removing metal from the back where the radio rack munted. My solution; I picked up a seat that was removed from one of those work stools for scooting around your shop. (Harbor frieght sells them for $80, there'r comfy, and the pan is solid steel and very durable). I cut off 4 inches from the front to the contour of the back of the rider seat. It already had 4 threaded bolt holes in the steel pan so I just drilled more holes in the radio mount and back fender, to the bolt pattern on the seat pan, and bolted it directly through the bottom of the radio rack mount and the fender. The back rest is the one that came with the bike and I simply welded it to the bottom of the seat pan before I mounted it. Here' how it turned out.

That's a pretty slick job, Sir. Now, if you had a little pad on the tank, you could haul the wife and daughter at the same time. Put those disinterested boys in a wagon behind.

All my kids are Teens/ young adults, that explains the boy's attitude a little more. So with my dughter being almost 16 she probably wouldn't fit on the tank too well.

It's too bad it's so hard to find a one piece replacement seat for these bikes.

Here's how it looked when I first bought it.

Nope, she probably wouldn't fit up there anymore. My wife will still fit on the back, but our 45 year old daughter wouldn't ride too well on the tank either. In the late '60s, I had a Royal Enfield Indian Chief. I would sometimes stick her on the seat in front of me and she was partially on the tank. "Wowee, Daddy, wowee!!!"

Looks good Mike. I too was debating on a passenger seat on my 92. Still have not decided since my wife has her own bike, and a nice pelican hard bag would fit nicely on the rack or some other travel bag may fit.
