'81 KZ1100A1 Seat Interchangeability
01 Sep 2010 19:51
I am looking to change the seat on my 1981 KZ1100 A1. The seat currently on it is a Mustang that came on it. It doesn't use the stock hold-open or the seat lock. Other than the original seat are there any seats from other models or years that would fit? I have searched the forum and only found similar data for years up to 1980.

Daveal...I think the only 'drop-on' replacements are the 1100 shaft seats (1981/2/3 KZ1100A1/A2/A3). Other seats that probably have the same length (the 1981/2 1000 LTD or CSR) have a different pattern to the attached rubber dampers, suggesting that the frame is different on the 1000 series).

As my bike didn't come with a stock seat, just an overstuffed Mustang easy chair, I'll be on the lookout for at least a decent seat pan. Thanks for the info.
By the way, how did you come up with that info?
1. Do you have one of each bike for comparison?
2. You've lived and breathed Kaws forever?
3. There's a reference out there somewhere with all that data?

3. yes... www.kawasaki.com has almost every kwak exported to or made in the US, on searchable microfiche. It is a trick to get to learn how to navigate on the site, but worth the effort. I also have microfiche and a microfiche reader for all kz650-750-900-1000-1100-1300 made between 1972 and 1984...and microfiche crosslisting of all Kawasaki parts. :)
