I have a problem with my KZ1000. the bike hasnt seen the road in 10 years and when i went to take off the rear wheel to replace the chain and check some stuff out, the wheel wouldnt come out of the bike. the spacers and caliper mount are coroded right on to the axle, i ended up getting it out by taking the back part of the axle blocks off and wiggling it back and forth and oiling it and after nearly an hour it came loose. i now have a rear wheel with the axle stuck in it, and i mean suck! i beat on the axle back and forth and sprayed oil on it until the block of wood i was using between the axle and hammer was pretty much gone. i have never had this happen to me before, any ideas? thanks.

Soak it with Kroil for a couple days - it will loosen. Ed

Corrosion can pretty much lock things together. Penetrating oil followed by heat usually free's things up for disassembly.I'd try a propane torch or a heavy duty hair dryer.

Two brands I like are PB Blaster and Kroil for stuck together parts.

The bearings are probably toast by now, so www.goallballs.com should have new ones for you.

When re-assebly time comes around, put a thin coating of the silver Anti-seize on the axle as it will make removal much easier.

Liquid Wrench penetrating lubricant is another good one & it's usually cheap.
It performed better than PBB in a test posted here on KZR.
LW has a number of good products & they're usually cheaper than others.
Unfortunately, for me anyway, I don't think they make their cycle chain lube any more. Three bucks for a big can & it was a good product.

....

PS: wd40 was the worst. I hate that stuff.

There's a better one: get the DuPont Multi Purpose teflon spray lube at Lowes in the blue can. I think it is $5 for a giant can. Best chain lube I ever found. Goes on wet to penetrate in and then dries to a waxy film. Does not throw off or hold dirt. My new chain is showing zero wear using it (no stretch).

I got it, had to keep spraying PB on it and beatin on it with a hammer, ended up using a punch to push it through, even after it broke free it still was stuck. now i need wheel bearings, when i put it together again so i could move it around, there was a loud thud when i tightened down the axle nut. i hope i can get this on the road before the snow flies. . .

Z1 carries most everything. If they don't have it, Old Bike Barn has a lot of KZ parts. If you have to order OEM from kawi, Bike Bandit and babbittsonline.com will get you a good discount on kawi parts./
