Shaft to Chain??

Have a 1980 KZ1000 shaftie that is geared for 55 mph speeds, so it wails at 5 grand while doing 70 mph. Can the shaftie be converted to chain drive? It's got a 90 Degree drive bolted to the engine that goes to the shaft. Can't change gearing with the ring and pinion, so . . . . . ?????

Thanks for the info. Sorry to be a bother. "This subject has been covered before here." I'll do an archive search before I post another question.

Fatter rear tire will raise the gear ratio a little.

No problem Guy,

The Search function doesn't work very well.

Stock KZ1000ST turns 3873rpm at 60mph which calculates to 4518 at 70 just for the record. No doubt someone put those 5:11 gears in over the years. Maybe has the wrong tires. A low profile rear will goof up gearing.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
