Regular KZ1000 and LTD parts interchangeability
18 Jul 2010 14:25
I just picked up a '79 LTD. It was a little confusing about what model it actually was, the seller said it wasn't an LTD and it had a spoke wheel in the front with a 16" mag in the back.
I prefer the standard KZ. Checking the frame # on Z1enterprises website, looks like I have an LTD after all.
Question: are the seat pans the same? I'd like to get a regular KZ seat and replace the LTD seat.
Also picked up a '78 KZ1000 rear wheel (spokes and disc brake) which I want to put on the back of this bike.
Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Seat pans for the 1977/1978 KZ1000A1/2 models (AKA standard) will interchange with the 1977/8/9/80 KZ1000B models (AKA LTDs). The seat pans for the 1979/80 A3/4 models are different.

I also have a 79 kz1000 ltd. The seat can be changed to the
standard kz but you need to change the seat latch on bottm.
The points cover is on problem but stator cover will not work because of the stator is the same as 79 kz1000 mkII. I used z1 enterprizes and other web sights to find out what will fit. Look very close before you buy parts and check, check, check. and welcome to KZR

Thanks for the help guys. Any info about the rear wheel? I would guess it's a bolt on replacement.
BTW I owned a KZ1000 way back when. I bought a brand new 1983 ELR at Cycle City in Honolulu in 1985. At that time people were into Ninjas and not so interested in KZ1000's. I sold it about 4 years later because I moved to Maui and didn't have a good place to park it. Oh well.
