Hi Peeps..

i got myself a "new" set of front forks, the previous owner mentioned that these would fit my bike and calipers.

the fittings for the calipers seem 0,5 inch(1cm) lower than my old front fork caliper fittings. so i cant fit them, rats..

is there a simple solution possible here? swap the caliper brackets around or something? or am i screwed? do i need to get matching calipers ?

piccies:

fitted new fork:

old fork, caliper fitting sits higher:

caliper:

the reason i wanted to swap is that one my old forks the studs that sit on the bottom are a write off, can i get those out and replace them easy? they look pretty darn solid in there..

any help would be aprreciated.. thx!

thats the problem, the bloke said they came from a c2 or c3 (close to my c4) hence i bought them, where only 30 dollars, so not that bad sale actually.. stupid me thinking that all those forks have all the stuff in the same place :(

I believe that your C4 may have gone to a larger disc over the c2 and c3

KZ650C4 1980

The last C, the C4 was on the market in 1980. The C4 was much the same as the previous C3 but it got some of the upgrades from the new F series. The ignition and stator covers where ribbed and it got a plastic cover under the headlight covering the brake lines. You could get it in two colors: Candy Persimmon Red and Black Pearl. It wasn't sold on every market so there are not quite few around.

@plummen

Ok do I need to put some heat on the forks to get them out? My grip tool keeps slipping on the bolts. Maybe they used one of those heavy duty loctites in there.

Yggy,

The twin-disc Z650 has smaller diameter discs than the single-disc model.

A few days ago I had to remove some fork studs that were really stuck in there. Take a Dremel or similar with a cutting disc and remove some material on both sides of the stud, so you get two parallel flat surfaces. Use some penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. Put the flattened end in a bench vice and twist the bolt out gently but firmly. While you do this, watch carefully for signs that the bolt is deforming (you do not want to snap it off).
Good luck & don't worry, it'll come out fine.

I just take THREE nuts and tighten them against each other and than use the inner most nut to remove the stud, plus you can warm up the aluminum with a heat gun, DO NOT USE A TORCH.
