Yes. I set the slack to be a little over an inch of deflection on the bottom at the middle of the span.

Have a look along the top length of the chain from behind the rear sprocket, looking towards the front sprocket.

The chain is properly aligned when it rides perfectly centered on the teeth of both sprockets. If the inside sides of the links are touching the sprocket, then the chain is leaving the sprocket at an angle, and it will always produce a constant light clacky kind of sound.

The sound is deffinately exagerated by an over tentioned chain as well. Make sure that you have a good 3/4 inch of play/deflection on the loosest part of the chain run. (With a new chain, that will be pretty much anywhere).

Good luck!.

i dont trust adjusters that much my self so i measure from the center of the pivot to the center of the axle and make sure they are even on both sides that i have found is the best way to verify chain alignment.

there is maybe a tad to much slack and it is lash your hearing???

there is a great long hill in somne orchards near me...we ride out there a few times a year to sightsee...it is a good place for me to put the bike in nuetral and coast down hill a mile stopping and going and listening to chain, brakes, shocks ect.....
sometimes i have been able to isolate sounds that were nagging at me for a while,to find...

Its not lash. It happens when the tire is off the ground and I rotate it by hand.

I did use the adjusters markings to align it, I'll have to measure and see what that tells me.

have you set or layed a end wrench against the sprocket cover and rotated the rear tire while the bikes up on the stand...you would feel the clicking through the meatl wrench if it is touching

As Tim mentioned, definitely don't just rely on the adjuster marks... ;)

As Tek wrote, raise the rear wheel and spin... Watch from behind and confirm top rear sprocket teeth alignment in chain... From this perspective, it's easy to see, as the chain rolls off the sprocket teeth, leave at an angle, is it centered or binding one way or the other...

Front sprocket, is it binding/off centered as it rolls into the sprocket teeth?

Is there an unknown spacer behind the cc sprocket causing an off set?

Clicking noise coming from front or rear sprocket...

Good luck...

I've seen a clicking in chain when someone had removed stock exhaust and replaced it with something else, however they didn't ensure that the stopper for the center stand was working and the chain was dragging on the top of the center stand as it wasn't being held down far enough.

If it's hitting something it should be easy enough to see, there will be marks from the contact.

Well I am taking it down the road for the State inspection tonight, so I'll check it all out before I go.

I really don't think it's hitting the case or the swingarm or anything. It reminds me of how a 10 speed bicycle clicks while it's coasting. That is exactly what the clicking sounds like. Maybe I'm being followed by a bicycle?

It sounds like it's coming from inside the cover or inside the transmission.

chains normally make noise when you roll the wheel.
wheel straight?
chain tightened right?
chain lubed?
if those 3 are ok and the nut on countershaft sprocket is tight, ride it! B)
