Air adjustable shocks provide an easy way to adjust the spring rate, more air pressure = higher spring rate. Goldwings and Concours 1000s used them. I used to ride a Concours and the air shock made it very easy for me to adjust for changing load and riding conditions, ie - adding or removing luggage and passenger. Modern sport bikes generally use a threaded collar to make this adjustment. It is more difficult to use, but there is no chance of leakage. Unless a person needs to make frequent adjustments, I see no need for the air shock's added weight and complexity. A premium set of mechanically adjustable shocks makes more sense to me. YMMV.
