81 kz550 rear sets was created by boostngearhead
Ive been looking for rear sets for my 81 kz550 and can only find rear sets that fit a '81 kz500 and another set that fit '82-'83 kz550. Anyone shed some light on compatibility? I emailed fastfromthepast.com and they said neither would fit my bike, which makes sense or itd be listed...

I also found some from spec2.com that are suppose to fit, which would be nice other than the only contact info is a phone number, not exactly secure ordering... Has anyone dealt with this company?

Also found Raask, and they have some that are made for my bike. The question is quality, the tarozzi rear sets look like higher quality. Any opinions there?

Thanks for any help ahead of time!

If you just want to move the pegs back and aren't interested in trickness or aesthetics then I'm pretty sure that you could put the pegs and shifter from an '81 GPz550 on there. They would probably move the pegs back 2+ inches and should be readily avail on ebay.

KZ500 parts should be similar, as should 82-83 KZ550.

Post links to rearsets if you get a chance

Don't deal with SPec II. I ordered some stuff 7 or 8 years ago and I'm still waiting to hear from the guy. It seems like a one-man operation over there and it's one grumpy man. ...not fun to deal with.

What model bike do you have. In 81 there were at least 3. The gpz, the LTD and the standard. They all had different pegs, but as mjg15 mentioned, you might be able to swap some from a gpz onto your bike.

The GPz pegs will definitely bolt on the stock mounting bosses on your frame. The KZ pegs are located in front of the mounting bolts and below them. The GPz's are behind and above. Both use the same mounting point on the frame. That's the good news....the bad news is the GPz shifter has a linkage that has a pivot point that is located on the countershaft sprocket cover. getting a GPz cover may be cheaper and easier than modding a KZ cover. The brake lever may or may not interfere with the GPz peg. I have both bikes in the garage so I can take a look and a couple pics tomorrow if you'd like. All these parts are regularly on ebay.

BTW nice 550, I'm hoping to put together a green one this season

Thanks for all the info! Im prolly not going to go with the gpz setup tho. Id like the controls further back then what the gpz setup can offer, the bikes going cafe. Im seriously looking at raask rearsets, comes with linkage and everything bolt on, very clean looking.

Thanks for the compliment! So far it has pipe, pods, jets. Next is cafe seat, rear sets, front/rear springs.

The Raasks are nice.

You will find that shocks and forks springs will make a BIG difference.

Check out the GPz550 forum for a ton of 550 info
