Ideas for 76 kz900 build
25 May 2010 18:48
I am tossing around some ideas for my recently aquired 76 kz900. I have been looking at some pics out of the gallery and I really like the extended swing arm. Where can I get one of the boxed style like on the drag bikes? I would like 8"-12" of extension. I would also like to run a wider tire front and rear. How is this done? Just in the idea stage right now nothing decided completely.

Lets see some pictures of what you have to start with. As far as running wider tires, you'll definantely need to change swingarms. The stocker doesn't allow for much wider than stock. You will also run into the need for an offset counter-sprocket. Depending upon how much offset you need, you may also run into an issue where the chain is contacting the frame. How wide do you want to go up front? Sorry, but I can't offer any advice on the boxed swingarm. I would think that 8"-12" would be a custome affair, but someone more knowledgable will come along. Are you planning on drag racing, or do you just like the look?

I will have to get some pics up when i get the bike home. Its at a freinds house right now, I got to clean some space out in my shop. Like I said, just tossing ideas around. Would like to end up with a really cool head turner at local bike nights. Not planning on any racing.

I have looked at some pics of bikes with 4" extend and the 8" may be a little much. If I use something like the 4" the Bad Dad posted will I still be able to use my shocks or does it have to use the strut rods? The rods make it look like a hard tail with no rear suspension travel. I think the above swing arm would work nicely, after a trip to the crome shop.
