Upper Shock Mount 75 Z1 900 was created by ed spangler
Good Morning
My question is about the washers ansd nut placement on the stock upper rear shock mount stud on 75 Z1 900.
having worked on many cars as far as shocks I remember that normally the washers for shock mounts are both behind and in front of the rubber shock grommet when placed on the stud, to prevent the grommet from "Binding", I noticed on my bike that there is no washer on the back side of the upper rear shock mount stud or
where the shock grommet comes in contact with the frame or it fits to the frame on the shock mounting stud, put another way, all the washers were on the side of the stud ( shock )facing out, hope that makes sense, hard for me to explain it. Reason I ask is this it would seem to me that as is common in automotive apllications , this arrangement would cause the rubber shock grommet to "Seize" and not move freely. Oddly enough ( Or not ) my cousins 76 Z900 has the washers on the stud all on the outside also ,immediately behind the Shock retaining nut also.
Has anyone ever looked at this on their bike and examined it? Are all your shock stud washers on the outside?,none behind the shock where it contacts the frame?
Thanks
ED

Good Morning Ed...if you look at the exploded diagrams for the Z1B on www.kawasaki.com you note that the washers are all on the outside of the shock and none on the inside next to the frame.

Excellent.

When hunting for a bike at the Kaw site, I find it easiest to do the Search-by-Model-Info without entering a vin or anything. Just pick a year only then choose a bike from the list. A lot of stuff in the diagrams is clickable, so click stuff.

The diagrams can be finicky. When you make it to the diagram page for your bike, but you get the Model not found in the parts catalog message, insert a dash between the Z1 & B at the top so that it reads Z1-B (not Z1B). Good luck.

Thanks!
One of these days I will figure out how to access this info.
Guess I am still somewhat challenged at that.

Kawasaki.com -->> Owner Info -->> Parts diagrams -->> Search-by-Model-Info -->> click continue -->> pick a year only -->> click continue -->> choose a bike from the list.

Clicking the diagram reference number locates the full part number below (not always, though).
Click the full part number -->> a new window opens w other info. Parts listed as Active may still be available at the dealer or Z1Enterprises.com.
Click the yellow/black ? -->> another new window opens w a list of bikes that use that part.
Click the red/white S -->> another new window opens w the superceded part numbers.

PS: if you have a dial-up connection, maybe they aren't so easy to use - not sure.
