Brake caliper Adapter plates. was created by otakar
Is there anyone who makes a selection of adapter plates for adapting calipers to forks and discs? I would just hate to start carving out mi own. I need to go from a 72mm spacing on the forks to 55mm spacing on the caliper mount, plus accommodate a little larger disc. The top hole would match up if I staid with the same size disc, but my new disc is 1/2" larger.

I looked at his post and it looks like he has the same dilemma.

I just cut some out of 1/4 in stainless for my rear caliper.I know a guy that builds custom choppers and thats all he uses.just make a few poster board templates until your happy with the shape and size.unless the calipers are radial mounted.

No dilemma..
I only make and sell the complete kits and I can only make them for the front ends that I have in stock.

Making and selling only the caliper brackets leaves a lot of "faith" in the new buyer to get the correct parts to go with the brackets. There are some calipers and disc that look very similar, but wont interchange with each other. Some calipers look very similar and have the same bolt mounting pattern, but when the wrong calipers are used, the brakes will work fine UNTIL the brake pads wear down and hit each other (because the calipers don't sit as far down on the disc as they should and the pads sit above the disc and when they wear down, the pads hit against each other and you then have very compromised brakes).

I don't finish what other people start either (and I really don't mean to be rude). Some people get it stuck in their head that they want this caliper on that disc with that wheel and it wont always work or fit together. This is especially true with a spoked wheel and 4 and 6 piston calipers. On many applications, there just isn't enough room for the calipers to clear the spokes and if you do get the calipers to clear the spokes, then the disc often hits the fork leg and the brake "kit" wont work together anyhow.

As I said in the other brake thread, it's best to get a complete kit from 1 supplier to make sure the kit will work together like it should.

I have a set of 91 ZR750 dual piston calipers which I am attempting to mount on a 81 GPz1100 front end that has a 79 1000ST front wheel with the 7 bolt discs. That is my dilemma. The discs are about 5/8" larger than the stock discs and the bolt pattern is 17mm closer together on the ZR750 calipers than the GPz1100 forks.
