Shock help
10 May 2010 14:19
Ok I bought a swing arm set up for a set of gs shocks. where should i get them? i am 200 lbs it is an 6 inch over and i would like to lower it about 2 inches as the the front is a gsxr front end so it is lower in the front already. the shock mounts are about 2 in back from stock. the back end right now is sticking up in the air compared to the front right now but will level out with the 2 inch lowering. any way what length? what spring weight. what other bike shocks would work? dont wanna spend over 200 bones.
any thing i missed?

It's been a while, but I recall the stock progressive springs for normal street service on my 750 was about 80/120 which I think means the spring compresses 1" from 80 pounds force and another inch for 120 pounds additional. But, that is force at the shock not at your butt which is forward of the shock.
Anyway,80/120 works perfect for me but I only weigh 175 and I never ride a passenger. A heavier load might need the next stiffer spring.
Check progressive (brand) gas sgocks and springs they have a great selection. I think Z1 sells them, that's where I got mine.

You won't get premium name brand for that, but I ran a set of these for about 20 years and they are decent for the price:dont wanna spend over 200 bones.

i think u are going to have some experimenting to do.i would start with a ride on the present shocks and go from there.
if u lay the shock down by moving the lower mount back, the shock will get stiffer fast.u can make up a bracket and try laying them down.
or by the cheap $89 set, the right length and see how u like the spring rate.
then order new springs.

I am running an 82 Zuki gs swing arm and 82 Zuki shocks. I would try to match shock and swing arm.The set I have worked fine on the 82 swing arm so I assume would be close on most other Gs arms.bj
