Fixing a solo seat?

One of the spring bungs on a solo seat I was starting to mount pulled out. Turns out they were never welded but just pushed through and hammered on the other side. I could push it back in, and I'm figuring on getting both bungs tack welded in a few spots. But the seat is complete and I'd hate to rip it all apart to do these little welds. Can I get a few tacks done really fast and not burn the whole seat up? The threads in the bungs go all the way through, so if necessary I could squirt some water in there after each tack. Opinions?
