KZ650- 78 Gas tank on a 79? Please Help

So I get my first bike and have my permit.. I want to get out and ride but the holes in my gas tank are preventing that. The largest hole is pretty big. (size of a thumb) not sure how brazing will do.. then the tank is lined already. just alot of hassle.

Does anyone know if a 78 tank will work on a 79b3?
any changes in mouting sizes or petcock?

If you can give me some direction I would greatly appreicate it.

Hello Adam... www.kawasaki.com shows the tanks and petcocks as interchangeable. Perhaps a 750 twin owner can confirm this?

B3 LTD 1000? All of the 900-1000 tanks will work on that model. I believe the 76 tank would require some retrofitting to the tank as they had a vacuum feed which would require the use of an adapter plate that pingel sells. Just make sure your tank supports on the frame are where they need to be toward the back and that they do not slip around or the tank will slide back and forth.
As long as you have that bung-hole you're good to go. :blink: To avoid further hassle with the petcock if it is leaky replace it with a pingel unit. Expensive but for me worth every penny not having to monkey around with those leaky petcocks. Good luck on that. Sounds like you have or will have other issues to iron out. It is never just one thing with these bikes. Never. But well worth it when you finally get them sorted out.

It says KZ650 in the heading. I have a 77B1 tank on a 79D3 frame. It should work. I have used epoxy puddy to fix holes before in tanks before with no leaks.

Tanks are interchangable between 77-80 KZ650's. The CSR or LTD tanks do not work on KZ's.
