Not every set of forks has that same sleeve. Some have none at all. Mine had no sleeve. If you install "Progressive" springs, you will remove that sleeve, because the new springs are much longer.

Fantastic, thanks for all the info and opinions tek9ine, and otakar. I Like the idea of just replacing the seals, and maybe the bushings since they are no doubt original. simple and in expensive. Which lead me to ask myself how I got on the track of why I was thinking about progressive springs to begin with, aside from mechanical reliablity of springs vs air. I also had it in my head that it would decrease the chances of bottoming out riding 2 up. My wife and I riding 2 up is a load of aproximately 400lbs. While she won't be riding with me all the time i'm trying to convince her that she should get a bike and license. we've gone out a few times pre seal leak and the stock suspension seemed too soft even with preload up at max in the rear and 9 psi in the fork.
Does throwing those thoughts in the mix alter your opinions on just replacing sleals and bushings and staying with air?

Replacing the springs is not a bad idea either way. the stock springs SUCKED. They get week first of all and they were mushy to begin with. I left my air forks AND added the extra spring on top. I just got my new springs from Z1E and will put them in this weekend. The springs for my forks are 29mm unlike the 25mm springs for your bikes. This is why my springs had to be special ordered.

Well, I like this valve spring idea. Anyone have some old 750 valve springs they want to get rid of?

First measure the ID of your fork tubes to make sure that the 750 valve springs will fit your application. My fork tubes are 38mm OD and and 30mm ID. If you need information about your forks you can go to this link.
