I need new fork tubes for the kz900 '76. The sliders may as well go too, the problem is rust on the tubes and oxidation on the sliders, the bike was outside for a year.

Also the spokes on both wheels are ugly/corroded, and the rims have a couple spots of bubbly rust under the chrome.

I have a chance to buy the front forks, the front stock wheel and the rear stock wheel from a 1975 Z1 project leftovers and the guy sent me pictures showing that they're in great cosmetic condition.

QUESTION: The Z1 forks look different from the kz900. I actually like the look of the Z1 forks, but are they the same *size* as my '76 kz900 forks.

I'm not even sure if the 1975 Z1 and 1976 kz900 have the same-size wheels.

SO MY QUESTIONS ARE........

- are the wheels the same size on the '75 Z1 and the '76 kz900?

- will the 1975 Z1 forks install right in to my kz900's triple tree?

- or even better, is the Z1 triple tree and forks a direct swap into my kz900 frame?

My 1976 kz900 is the 'standard' model with wire spoke wheels and one front disk brake, and the back brake is a drum brake.

they should be a straight swap if i'm not mistaken tube size is the same the only thing i'm sure about is the mounts for the caliper. but if getting the whole package it should just slide in.

If you transplant the entire front-end (wheel, caliper, etc), it swaps over easily. If you just want to use some of the parts, it's a little trickier.

The caliper is different. Only the Z1 caliper will fit the Z1 forks. But if you have the Z1 caliper as well as the rest of the front-end, it'll install perfectly.

The wheels are the same size, the speedo drives differ, the disk rotor is the same diameter, but the number of bolts holding it to the wheel differ (4-bolt on the KZ, 6 on the Z1). The axle is different as well.
