Are Dog Bone risers safe? was created by djturnz
I want to do some riding this summer before I really start to re-do my 750 project. I plan to go with some slightly taller bars, requiring longer cables and brake line. I am hoping to put that off for now, due to the expense, and not knowing exactly where to get longer cables.

However, I have the LTD bars and they suck. Way too much pull back. I was thinking of buying a $20 set of superbike bars and using the 6" dogbone risers I have laying around to give a more straight across bar with some height (roughly 2" rise bars and 6" risers gves me 8" total, stock bars are about 9". I'd like to go to 10 or 12" as a part of my project goal).

My question is, are dog bones safe? Can they be tightened enough at both ends to be relied upon? If a bolt breaks or something at 50mph, I think I'd be screwed.

For reference, these are the ones that come with a short piece of bar to mount in the standard bar location, then the risers hook to that bar and the handlebars.

i believe that they are safe fwiw.
it is your a$$ tho.
i would not hesitate to use some if i wanted.i would make sure that i had nice high quality fasteners and that they were properly torqued and would check them after a lil shakedown ride and periodicaly afterwards.until i felt safe with them not loosening or moving.

you may want to take a small center punch and peen the inside of where the risers clamp on to the barsd it will give a bit better bite and should keep them from slipping and as leon said good quality bolts and proper tourque will go along way to keeping you safe. nothing worse than haveing your bars moving around by them self.
