I need some help with choosing tires was created by djturnz
I am going to look at a 750 LTD (4cyl) this weekend. The guy says it will probably need tires. I assume the rims are F19" R16" like the larger LTDs?

What is the widest rear tire I can fit? I want to look around online for tires now. I'd like to find some whitewalls.

This might be a dumb question.

I have been looking at tires online. I know that these old bikes use puny tires compared to modern cruisers. I saw a couple 130/90-16s listed as FRONT tire. Is there some reason this can't be used as a rear?

actualy it probably might have an arrow for mounting front and on the other side/other direction..for mounting rear...problem would be getting someone online to go and look and see...lest you see the tire at a shop and can take a peek.....back before everyone got religion (safe on tires)folks would make a tire suit the need....now it's taboo...

MT90/16 is also a 130/16....

i have an avon front and rear 19-16 and i got turned on to avons.....and directed to this seller ...motorcycle pro shops .com.......

the tires are really good...and dress up the lines a bit imo...WDBA

this is what they were selling for with tax and shipping and v rated for speed...pretty darn good deal imo...good luck....you will only be able to get white walls in h rated....but that should be plenty fast for most folks

example follows:

Item 1
Product ID: 0306-0052
Product Name: ***5730 TIRE ROADRIDER MT90-16 Rear
Product Price: $87.00

That's actually a fair question, and people have done it, but I wouldn't do it and definitely don't recommend it.

Front and rear tires take their load in opposite directions of each other, and are designed with that in mind. If you think about it most of the load on the front comes from braking, and most of the load on the rear comes from accelerating, and these loads are opposite each other.

When people use a front tire on the back (or rear tire on the front), they usually put it on opposite the recommended rotation direction. This makes the tires designed load direction line up with the load that will be on the tire the most in that position.

Considering that the tread design and direction would be completely wrong, not to mention the fact that front/rear motorcycle tires are designed to work together in their proper locations with very different functions, I would NOT put a front tire anywhere but the front wheel and vice versa. B)

Hope this answers your question!:)

A lot of good tires show two arrows on the sidewall, one direction for front fitment and the opposite direction for rear. My Avons had that.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but I ordered a SHINKO. I still have to go pick it up. I needed the rear for inspection. I haven't found a front for a good price yet. Right now it has a Speedline II on the front.
