The subject pretty much says it. I am wondering what motors I can drop directly into a KZ900 frame. Will a 1000 motor bolt right in?

Short answer...yes. BUT, just the 1015 series (the later J series are not a direct drop-in)...so, any Z1/KZ900/early KZ1000 (except E series) will fit.

ALright that's a help. I'm in the process of deciding what I want to do with my bike. I've only ridden it for a short time and it's my first bike. I want to really fix her up.

A 76 crank case will accept a set of 1015 cylinders which can be punched to a 1075 before you drop it in. That way you only have to swap the top end. You can also use a ported "J" series head with a APE idler mount to get her really breathing. The earlier head will require quite a bit of work to get it to breathe. this way you can use your entire bottom end.

Well I hoping to put together a couple of bikes that I have laying around at my buddies house.(He just takes the forks and leaves the rest) And sell them and the extra leftover parts to fund my rebuild. So if anyone wants to help fund my rebuild I will give everyone a heads up when I have them finished. They aren't Kawasaki's though.

I was thinking about getting a 1015 or 1075 set from overstockpartsgalore.com but I'm not sure what else I would need to make sure she runs like a champ once I'm done. I know I have to send in my head to have a valve job and replace some guides. Thinking that if I cannot find someone to do it around here for cheap it's going to LarryC.

I also have ads on Craig's list to see if anyone in my area has a good running kz1000 that I can get for cheap. Which is really the reason for my post. So we'll see what I can dig up.

Wish me luck.

I actually just found a 77 kz1000 that I'm going to see how much he wants for it. It has 20,000 miles on it so it might be a good deal and I'm going to try to get it for less than what it would cost for a valve job. So then its just a matter of seeing which frame I want to use. So we'll see what happens.
