Chain slack and rear axel torque was created by gr8funbikes
I replaced my rear chain on my 82 750 csr and don't have a manual to refer to. How much slack should there be in the chain? Also when I tighten the rear axle what should it be torqued to?
Any info would help greatly. Thank you

I think that rear axle torque on mine is around 90 - 100 ft-lb ballpark. Basically, it's as much as I can crank with the little mickey mouse wrench that comes in the tool kit.
Chain slack: you need to sit on the bike and check it, and slack should be about 1" to 1.5" vertical total up-down in the center of the chain between the sprockets. make sure you don't have any tight spots, that's the sign the chain is hosed. Roll and re-check until you are sure you have checked all the way around. I mark a link with a black sharpie and keep going until I see it again.
