rear sproket
26 Mar 2010 14:01
On my 1980 kz750 standard I put a 1980 kz750 LTD tire and sprocket on. I just noticed it has a 32 tooth sprocket and my original had a 33 tooth. Will this really matter and will I have to change front sprocket?

I doubt that you'll really notice. The LTD tire may be slightly shorter than the stock tire and the slightly smaller sprocket will offset that.

Gearing changes are something as bike owners we all do.If you want higher top speed, a smaller rear sprocket is the way to go, the drawback is slightly longer acceleration to get there.Look at this website for gearing calculations:

a one tooth change on the front is about the same as changing 3 on the back so with a 32 on there you really wouldn't see a whole lot of difference from the 33 i wouldn't worry about it myself. not enough difference to hardly even notice.

According to the article posted in another thread about the LTD, the sprocket change was to compensate for the different over-all height of the rear wheel/tire set up on the LTDs. It was supposed to more closely match the gearing of the standard bike.
