Brakes
25 Mar 2010 15:28
Front and rear brake master cylinder on my kz750 are locked up and can not remove from master cylinder housing. The plunger/piston is not coming out easily.I have it soaking in brake fluid but not much luck in getting it out yet. Anyone, know a easy way to get this out?
I need to start ordering parts and was trying to get it so I could see if I could reuse any of these parts but now it looks at least a rebuild kit for each.
Thanks
Ray

Possibly applying compressed air to the port might be enough to force it out of the bore. I'd be careful in catching it as it will act like a projectle if not restrained.
A rubber tipped air nozzle will be able to fit tightly in those ports. I'd wear some eye protection too, as the air will tend to vaporise any brake fluid.

Yeah, I have done this with my calipers also and they do get going pretty fast. I tried the air on the rear but front looks almost hopeless. It did not work on the rear either but I have just removed them and need to try again.
I will give it a go tomorrow.
Thanks

I used compressed air on my ZX636 calipers, works real well... Just a little blast popped them right out...
NOTE: Be careful, place a piece of wood 1/4"-3/8" between pistons where aimed down... Remove the brake bleeder nipple, short burst at a time, pops right out...

Lay a couple rags over caliper because when you "blast" it out, some fluid may be included. The air thing works really well. Don't just apply air, hit it sharply!
