81 gpz swing arm
23 Mar 2010 14:16
Hi all,....I recently picked up a 81 gpz 1100....I would like a bigger back tire than stock....is there a painless bolt on solution? (bolt on wider swing arm?) thanks in advance.

Ask here:
www.americanclassix.com/swingarmKJSA900_150.html if they don't have what you need in stock,I'd think they can get it.

Actually It is from the GS1100 that guys are using. It is a box Aluminium arm that is about 1.5-2" longer than the stock. Here is one on My GPZ.

It is not an EXACT drop in. There is some shimming required in the pivot area, but that is about all besides the longer rear axle. I am using a LTD 16" rear rim so I can put a wider tire on. I also just picke up a 18" front rim for it from a KZ1300. So I will mount that this weekend.

OH- I did forget to mention that you will require a set of Honda "Lead-wing" rear shocks. The mounts on the swingarm require clevis stile lower shock mounts. Also because the arm is a bit longer the Wing shocks are longer to compensate.

The box swing arm was on 1980-1983 GS1100E models. I built my GPz1100 from a 1981 KZ1000M (CSR) If you take a look at the bike of the month on the home page of KZR it gives you all of the specs of the bike. Also you can view the ongoing writeup on my thread.

The 1100E swing arms are becoming harder and harder to come by. At one time you could get a nice one for about $125-$150. Now they are fetching as much as $350 or more.
