no chain guard with chain wax?

I recently got my maintenanceland project almost done, and rode the old girl on saturday! yay! I kind of like the look of the bike without the chain gaurd, but don;t want a grease strip up my back everytime I ride. I searched chain wax and it seems people like it, I am just wondering if it will keep my clean while riding.

I love chain wax. But I run a chain guard on my bike, so I don't know whether it'll fly up on your back or not. But if you spray the stuff on, wipe off the excess and let it dry, sling off will be very minimal. Maybe do a couple quick blasts up the road with an old shirt on to sling off any that can sling off.

i have always removed my chain guards..just my preference,,,,but now that i do a lot of two up rides i think i need one for my 76 soon...i don't like her left heel being so close to the chain and worry that a good bump/slide/crash/slip on a wet foot peg could get hjer foot in contact....i asked her if she thought she'd feel better with a chain guard and showed her a picture of a 76 with one installed...she said "ick that's ugly"...so is a half of a foot ....gets crap everywhere to some days...

Actually, my wife rides with me fairly often, and she's the only reason I installed my chain guard. Otherwise I think it looks better without.

cool...i'm gonna get one...they are kinda like fenders now...every nice one i see draws a fair bit of bidding and the others are battery acid victims or banged up...the ltd shorty's seem to be what i want....she relaxes her stance after we've riddin a few miles and i've leaned out and looked down to see her heel..super close to the whirring whizzing 630 chain....good tip river...

Well, I think it should be there for two reasons. One, keeps that stuff(lube or wax)off of your bike and perhaps body. I use wax and have noticed it on the underside of the chain guard. And the second reason? I know that this will probably never happen but if your chain breaks don't you think a chain guard will help defray it from ripping your leg off?
Besides, those LTD chain guards are drop dead sexy when they are in good condition.

The best lube that stays on as a dry film (and doesn't fly off) is the Dupont multi purpose teflon lube in the blue can at Lowes.

It's also good to lube the chain right after a ride, while it's still warm. Thinners in lube evaporate better and lube is attached better when you ride.

Yep, that's the stuff I use. Lots cheaper than the stuff at the stealership.
