Head Stem Bearings was created by Muddy
I'm getting some play and a clikcing in the head stem when I come to stop. I thinking its definietly loose in there and probably in need of new bearings. My questions are:
When I take it apart how do you know if the bearings are toast?
If I take it apart am I just further ahead to replace the bearings?
What's involved in replacing the bearings?
Thanks

Muddy, if you are getting a clicking, then you can be sure that those bearings are toast. The factory neck bearings never hold up too well. Get the newer style tapered roller bearings and call it done. They are a definant improvement. Leave the ball bearing style for your bicycle. Just remove the fork and the bearings will fall out. The only challenging part is driving out the original races. It seems like I had heck removing my lower race. The tapered bearing kit will include two new bearings, two new races, and seals. Really all you need besides tools and some bearing grease. Oh yeah, if you order from Z-1 you get some stickers for your toolbox.

To the moderators. Is it possible to sticky these tutorials or create a archive of just tutorials? It seems that it would be easier for newer memebers to locate the needed info.
