I was contemplating doing something like that once I finally get around to shoving the 1000 motor into my 77 650 cafe, would sure make it more everyday riding friendly to be able to adjust the valves without pulling the whole damn motor. Now that I have the stock 77 all ironed out I'm all out of excuses (other than no cash flow) and need to get my ass in gear on the 650 Mille (also receiving a 95 zx6 front end, swinger, brakes and suspension). I'll post LOTS of pictures once I actually get some funds scraped together to get started...

if you check out my link you'll see my frame that has been stretched in the downtubes 2" and the lower frame rails 3". it's not complete however just a work in progress.

i like the stretch in the down tubes do you use solid stock it looks like you must have, also why did you stretch the lower frame rails is the the 1000 that much bigger then the 650.

I use solid stock turned to fit snug inside the tube. The stock also has a small key way cut in it to compensate for welded seam in the tube. I then slide a piece of tubing over area for stretch to match od of existing tubes. The stretch in the lower frame rails is more for my long legs. I am trying for a Kenny Boyce FXR style frame with some Detroit Bros. inspiration for backbone.

if i was modifing a frame for my leg lentgh i'd probably have to take two inches out. i'm just a shortass. but i really like that setup you have going on.

Thanks. I'll post more as I do more. Everything done to frame so far has been over the course of the last four days. This coming weekend I plan on doing the back bone so hope fully I'll have new pics by next Monday.

I remember somebody saying those 900 motors stick out quite a bit on the alternator side and they are heavier towards that side also - not sure if that is an issue of not with the smaller chassis and fork.
As for the valve shim issue, just saw cut the valve cover down the middle and use some 3Bond... that way when you go to lift up on the one side that seal should break (keep other side bolted down)

Why would engine be heavier on one side than the other? How much wider is the 900 engine than that of the 650. I guess what I am trying to say is, unless the engine is considerably wider than the 650 to where you would have to offset the engine to let the chain track on the two sprockets than there shouldn't be any considerable weight difference form one side to the other. However you would definately want to upgrade suspension for the extra weight of the 900.
