900 engine in 650 chassisconversion was created by timebomb33
i just got a kz650b chassis that has a mono shock conversion started. it has a clean title and i was thinking of stuffing a 900 or 1000 into it as i don't have a lot of 650 stuff in fact none. has anybody done this swap on here i remember seeing one that had been done but i can not remember where. with this frame and i got parts of what appears to me to be all the body work and engine from a gpz 750 and a 650, that engine that looks like it's been outside for a few years and i also got a xs650 engine thrown in on the deal plus a bunch of other goodies for 250.00 dollars so i might have a bunch of stuff for sale soon.

Yeah, I've seen that bike too and I think photos are buried somewhere on this site...I seem to recall that one of the issues with squeezing a 900/1000 into a 650 frame was that you couldn't change valve shims without pulling the motor...

yes it had crossed my mine that shim changes might be an issue i have a drag chassis that originaly had an alcohol burning gpz 750 motor in it then by the time i got it had been blown up and then a converted kz1100 shaft drive motor was installed so its really hard to tell what they had done differently to get the motor in it. the chassis was a completly built frame not a conversion and i did have to remove the enginme to do any repairs so it kind of sucked. so i'm in the process of trying to figure out what i'll have to do to lift the backbone up about an 1 1/2" so ican remove the head and valve cover and give it about 5 to 7 degrees more rake for pipe clearance or just say the hell with it. this little 650 chassis on the othwer hand is pretty cool it has a zx 7 from the looks of it swingarm, shock and linkage so i'd really like to stuff some power into it. by the way i never realized just how light kz650 and gpz750's are compared to the big kZ's what a difference.

That sounds like a fun project. The 650's are like a toy after riding a 900/1000. Now stuff a monster motor and it would be a blast to ride. Reminds me of my 86 S-10 with a four bolt 350 crammed in it. What a blast to drive that truck was. It would suck to pull the motor for top end maintenence. I remember a thread on this topic and some one chimed in that you could pull the valve cover without removing the motor but I find that hard to believe. Dont let that stop you from doing the build, I'm sure you will figure something out.

I would put a GPZ750 engine in it or a ZR750 in it it has more HP and is lighter.

I remember something about splicing in some width to the frame to make it fit. If your going to put a 900 in there, wouldn't a 1000 fit just as well? Just thinking that it may be easier to find a 1000 engine to shoehorn in.

in the honda sohc4 forum there are people who make and install kits that let you take the lower upper tubes off, letting you lift the head if you want. its basically all about sawing off the lower tubes and welding special adapters which are bolted back with 8mm or 10mm bolts

Maybe it's an idea you could apply to your 650.
