650 to a 750 motor?
04 Feb 2010 23:04
I have a 1978 650 and about to start a full rebuild on it..
Is there a good 750 swap that can be done?

The 750/4 top end can fit onto the 650 crankcase (which is the same) with some modifications.
There are lots of people who have done similar builds.
Even boring the 750 top end upto 810 cc.
search through the engine section for 650/750/810 hyrids.

Depends on the year of 750. I've got a spare set of jugs, head, and cams from an 82 gpz750. Make me an offer. Actually I've got the whole motor, but if you only want/need the top end.

Like some said above, you can put in 750 jugs, pistons, etc on the 650 cases with a little massaging. That's what I'm doing right now. You'll need 80 or maybe 81 750 jugs to do this to an early 650.
Or you can swap in a whole LTD motor, everything is the same. You can swap in the GPz motor too, mounts & clutch cable are a bit different but nothing hard.
The GPz jugs & head won't work with an early 650 motor. The GPz has the Hivo camchain & the early 650 has the roller camchain.
My 650 is a '77, my GPz donor is a '83, no go. I'm using the jugs, pistons & cams from a '81 750LTD for my swap. Other than the 738cc on the jugs, nobody will ever know!
