Cowling Swap? was created by Colossus
I have an '81 kz550A and I'm kinda tired of looking at the stock cowling. It's the boxy one with the slight duck-tail action on the end. On the other hand I love the look of the straight and kinda long ones on the 900s and 1000s from years prior. Is it possible to swap these? It looks to me like the frame underneath might be the same size but I'm only going off of pictures. I'll need to switch out my brake signal also and probably my seat. I can post pics tomorrow but just wanted to know if I'm way off base with the sizing on these.

FWIW, I tried a KZ750 tail on my 78 KZ1000 and it wouldn't bolt right up. It could have been made to work, but would have been quite modified. My long way of saying that they're not all the same.

Cool. Thanks for replying. Kinda figured that would be the case but just wanted to see if someone else had tried it before me. Those things ain't always cheap! I'll figure something out. I love the tank on my ride but I hate that cowling! Maybe I'll chop the frame or something.
