Caliper Rebuild Kit
15 Jan 2010 09:20
Hi, I bought some caliper Rebuild Kits. I looked through the repair book and it does not say how to rebuild the calibers. It says take it to a shop, that it needs special tools to do the job.
The brakes work fine but would love to rebuild them. Do I really need special tools?
These are the kits I'm talking about:

pick set and an air compressor would be nice to blow the pistons out but watch your fingers you can lose them really fast if your not carefull.

I picked up a kit and new pads for my KZ750B2 from Z1 and receieved them yesterday. I am taking a break from process of doing the rebuild right now. For me, at least, there is really nothing to it.
I had to rebuild because at some point I lost the piston-side pad and was using the piston for stopping power which eventually wore down enough to allow fluid to flow out.
I have a question though: Is the special tools required for the piston because it is difficult to remove? I ask because I struggled to get the new piston in. It is in now, but it does not move freely. Is this the way it should be? I sure hope so...
