stretching a 77 KZ1000 and front end swap was created by spiky77KZ1k
hi guys
i'm new to this site and been reading most topics ansd seems you guys can help me achieve my goal
just purchased a 77 KZ1000 and below is what i would like to do and need advice on.

how much of a stretch is long enough?6" or 8" or 10"
where can i buy a stretched swing arm that does not require much fabbing?
i would like to run new style sport bike wheels(17") front and rear with a 180 or 200mm tire, which do you recommend?
i want the new style upside down front end, which one will fit pretty easy with out much cuttung and welding??
does the steering neck/head have to cut and raked to be able to run Vance n Hines sidewinder headers?

gents any help and advise will be highly appreciated.
i just got the bike home last night , and i'm still out of the county working but will be home soon and want to dive right in to modifying my KZ,so any help i can get before getting home would be great it will save me alot of time and i can start purchasing parts and have em deliverd by the time i get home

thx, Spiky.

a friend of mine has a 81 gpz with a sidewinder pipe. I think his front end is from a zx7 or 9. does not interfere with tire.he did modify it past the collector to tuck tighter to the frame.

why do you want to extend rear of bike so far? normally 2-3 over on swingarm is enough to just about anything down on the street, start going too much over and the rear wheel wont have enough weight on it to hook up anything short of a turbo B)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

You could build your own. It is a pain.It took me about three hours to build the middle one. I run the one on the left. Roy

i was thinking of a max of 4" and to use modified rear suspension like my cousin has set up for his 1/4 bike.

are u going to drag race it?
just about any front end will work. they all require the same mods.only a few will alow the use of the speedo gear.
the 94 to 97 zx9 is the longest, that alows the speedo gear.that i know of. i used a 96.
a 2 ' over arm will keep the front end down. i have a 2" over zrx arm with a 1200cc motor.
Do u have fab skills, and equipt ?

As mark queried, without some skills & tools this can get expensive...

Maybe this will help in what your looking at for these conversions... Note, you don't have to go the mono shock swing arm approach for there's other 2" over swing-arms available that take dual shocks....

I could be wrong, but when the swing arm is stretched what does it do to the chain slop? I'd think without some tensioning roller, the chain would have periods where it's tight and loose as the rider went down the road.
