Someone please remind me again about how much fuel a '75 Z1 tank holds?

Thanks

Remember though, that's a "new" tank. As most Z1s have been repainted, capacity could be anywhere from 1 to 4.5 gallons depending on the bodywork done. ;)

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Also bear in mind two liters remain on the right side of the frame tube hump after the reserve is used. In order to access this fuel, you have to remove the tank and tip it over to the left, or lay the bike down on it's left side to spill the fuel to the petcock. So in essence you only have 15 liters of fuel.

Thanks guys!

I'll just figure 4 gallons and do my math from there.

Not really. Years ago I ran out of gas and had to push my bike aboiut 1/2 mile to the next gas station. I was getting really tired pushing that 465Ib bike . Just for the hell of it I tried starting it and it started! I hopped on and was able to ride it to the next station. I figured out that while I was pushing the bike it was leaning at an angle towards me and fuel was draining to the left side allowing enough gas to start and run. So yes, some gas remains on the right side when the left side runs empty! :)

I find it hard to run out of gas and push my bike since it is equiped with a reserve fuel system. Hitting reserve is one thing but hitting empty after reserve is another. :) :)

I'm not joking!! Just look at the construction of the tank. If it is sitting level, how is it possible for the fuel able to hop over the frame tube hump? I have filled up the dry tank on my 76 kz900. Sitting level, and filled to the top, it takes 17 liters. It takes 14 liters to hit reserve. One more liter until the reserve runs out of the petcock. Then I removed the tank, tipped it over to get the remaining fuel over to the petcock. Then I drained it into a measuring cup thru the petcock. 2 liters and the tank was then dry. So if you are riding along and run out of your reserve, just tip over the tank (there is usually enough play on the fuel lines), and you have 2 more liters of fuel. No joke!!

Makes sense to me. Really good information to have. I have come very close to running empty on reserve. There's not always a gas station around the next corner.
Thanks Galactica

Wow! I have to admit I didn't think there was that much of a tunnel at the back end of the tank. Thanks! ;)
