It's a 1976 KZ900 with 78 KZ1000 paint scheme as told to me by previous owner. I was ass-uming that the tank was original until I seen your post Roy. The tank does look like new inside and is not creamed which is a good thing I guess.

The previous owner also used the 75 badges on the sidecovers which he had told me. From the VIN this one was made in Japan. Would have been neat if from Nebraska as my daughter's future father in law has been working for Kawasaki in Nebraska for over 30 years.

The battery comes out from under the seat I am pretty positive. He(PO) had put a new battery in it. I have owned it for around 5-6 months. The head is off right now awaiting valve job. I honed the cylinder and installed new rings. Probably drove it about 800 miles before tearing top end apart. Previous owner said before he got it, that it sat under a tree for about 8 years. I did previous Dyna ignition, rebuilt carbs and sync'd, adjusted valves and a few other little details.

Went next door and checked the battery out. Looks like it had a metal strap and two screws holding it in. It's dark next door in my Dad's old house and garage, no electricity on over there. It comes out the right side. That youngster sitting on the KZ reminds me years back when my dearly departed brother would throw me the keys to his bikes. He used to get wrecked bikes and rebuild the frontends and sell them. I rode a many a bike that I couldn't touch the ground on. He would hold me up or I would rock them off the center stand and let go of the clutch and take off.
