how to remove/replace the steering stem lock?

As the title says

The bike is a 77kz650 b1

i'm about to reinstall the triple tree on my repainted frame. i have a new steering lock with key and i want to replace the old one which is currently in place.

how do i remove that lock from the frame?

in the workshop manual that part doesn't exist.

On Z1 and KZ900, I vaguely recall a small allen screw holding the lock cylinder in position.

All that holds it in is the cap.
The cap is held on by what the parts diagram calls a tapping screw, which I believe is just knocked into the frame.
You should be able to pry the srcew out, removing the cap and then the lock will come out.

Vic, It's been years, But I seem to remember that lower stem locks were retained w/set screws, AND, in order to remove, key needed to be installed and in "unlock" to remove. luck G
