Changing Neck on Frame

I have a 1980 KZ750E and was thinking of having it raked. I have a Harley neck 2.375"x7" outside dimensions with 1" Timken style bearings and races. Would this work with a stock triple tree set up? What degree of rake would work best?

Necks are not generally cut fully off during a rake. Rather, a pie shaped section is partially cut between the neck and frame, the remainder is heated and bent to close the gap, and rewelded. Another version is to cut a partial slot between the neck and frame, heat the remainder, and bent to open a gap, then rewelded with gussets. However, a good custom shop (that knows what it is doing) can probably graft your neck to your frame. How much to rake is dependent on a number of things including the fork length you want and the amount of trail that will result. Too much trail will make the bike hard to steer at slower speeds and too little will make it downright dangerous at higher speed. Here again, a good custom shop can help with design.
