Foam in countersprocket cover was created by 9am53
I cleaned up my c/s cover last night in preparation for polishing, and found that there was a second cover inside. I tried to remove it but 2 of the philips head screws are stripped. After some poking around I discovered that there is a sandwich of (oil soaked) foamy material in between. What was this there for? I can only imagine it was there for sound reduction, which seems asinine on an aircooled bike!

I'll take some when I get a chance, but I don;t think they will really show the foam. As I said the foam is squished between the c/s cover and a metal piece inside the cover, and I can;t get them apart.

Yep it's ssssssh stuff. I'd leave it alone unless you are racing it and need the weight reduction. I don't know how much it would take off either.
