Change from 16 to 18 rear wheel was created by jrjstuff
Hey everybody, its been awhile. Anyway, I am wanting to change my 16 inch rear wheel to an 18. I have heard of this swap before and if I remember correctly the outcome was more responsive cornering. Anyone have any input on this? Will the 18 fit in the stock swingarm of my 83 kz750 ltd.? It appears to have plenty of room. Please let me know what you guys think!

yes you can put an 18 from a kz 750 on the rear of an ltd...yes it'll fit fine...yes it will handle a tad different and imo pull/rev up to speed different enough to notice...others may disagree....i prefer a 16 rear....why...i guess that is what i learned to go fast on...and an 18 feels vauge in it's feedback...but thats just me......good luck...

Thank you for the input! I will be hanging onto my 16 in the event that I don't like the 18. But myself, I was just the opposite, I learned on the 18 and it seems the 16 is too small! I guess I will try it out and see!

18" tires tend to be a lower profile with roughly same overall height as 16" rubber,i think the 18s actually handle better without all the extra sidewall flex like 16s have

The KZ 750 had a 16 on it when I bought it, and included an 18 among the parts. I prefer the 18 and installed it. Pictures can be found

I put a 18" wheel on my '81 KZ750 this past winter. I had no trouble with it fitting and really like the handling (raising the rear and putting more weight on the front). Here is a link to my project (scroll down to see how it worked out). Let me know if you have any questions.

Do the same swap principles apply to kz550? Im looking to swap 16 for 18 for a kz550 project. Is there anyway this will work with the kz440 mags 18in?
