Help choosing correct size ss brake line.
10 Oct 2009 08:50 - 10 Oct 2009 08:53
Does anyone know which rear SS brake line I need for a 77 KZ1000A?
And additonal fittings, parts, etc. for a complete replacement.
www.z1enterprises.com/catalog.aspx?pid=KPWB1
Or if anyone has any better choices.
Thanks.

z1 has everything you need. Dennis Kirk also has the same parts but they might cost you more.

I replaced all my brake lines with the SS lines from Z1. The Kawasaki parts diagram showed the length in mm and I just bought the next size up in inches for each line, after subtracting 3 inches (I believe) for the fittings. My only word of caution is when I first bought the ones for the front I went down .8 inches from the stock length (580mm = 22.8 inches) and they were too short, so I ended up replacing them with ones that were one inch longer. That was a little bit of an expensive lesson, but if anyone needs two brand new, installed for a week or so, 19" SS lines, let me know.

I doubt it - I think my rear brake line was only 13" plus connectors. The Kawasaki parts diagram doesn't show the length of the rear line. You might just measure from the middle of one banjo bolt to the other and subtract 3" for the fittings to figure out what size to order.

Thanks for the help.
I know my 30 year old line broke down over time causing my brakes to lock up. I'm guessing the SS will hold up better.
Maybe, I should go the cheap route and just replace it with a NOS part from Z1.

You can also make your own with Goodridge parts catalog. I went with stainless fittings and braided hose. Coverd the hose with clear shrinktube. Fittings can be reused so it's a bit of an investment up front.

Catalog PDF is available for download. Store is closed for some reason.
Good parts though.
