we machined out some aluminum bungs that had the right hourglass shape inside and then was able to mount the stock gauges.
so the answer to your question is yes you can reuse your original gauges.
but there is going to be some manner of machining/fabrication and that is going to have to happen to facilitate them.

Leon, Clausing 5900 series lathe? I have one also, along with a few spare parts if you need anything. I converted mine to metric thread cutting.

I just picked up a 1985 GPZ750 that I'd like to slot a newer USD front end onto and might need some help. Subscribed and would love to see or hear any updates on this project.

1. Help some fellow guys out with their fork or other conversions.
2. Make a little money for helping them with the work? I'm sure any of us would be happy to pay for your skill and services.
It's so hard to find anyone local that knows anything about bike building AND that you can trust to get your stuff done correctly. Here on this forum we know we are dealing with skilled and dedicated bike guys who know what they are doing. I would gladly ship and pay money for some of you to do some of this work for my builds.

Leon (531blackbanshee) does help forum members with the projects a lot. He's done work for me plus at least 5-6 other members off the top of my head.

80b4 is spot on.
especially when working with manual machines and 1 off's.
the time that goes into some of the setup gets exorbitant.
no matter what you charge someone.
bottom line is the job needs to be right when it's done.
because of safety and the fact that people are going to tell other people you did it.
i try to help everyone i can however i can .
like kaw-a-holic said if you see someone doing work you need done hit em up and see if they are interested in helping you.
i have my blog in my signature that has pictures of work i have done both kz and non kz related. .

If the stock GPZ fork length is 31 inches (approx) and most sportbike front ends are 28-28.5 PLUS they run a smaller rim diamater and low profile tire (another 1 inch difference from the GPZ); how are guys getting away with running an updated front end that is essentially 3-4 inches shorter than the stock one without doing a custom drop down triple clamp? And can even a gull wing top triple clamp give you 3-4 extra inches?
