Z1R tires was created by flhwesty
a friend is restoring a 1978 Z1R to stock. Can anyone tell me the exact tires on it from factory?

1983 GPZ750
1977 KZ1000LTD
1978 Z1R
1981 GPz1100 KZ1100-B1

dunlop/dontgrips,cant remember model #.they were junk in 1978,they still suck today imo! :laugh:

No...go ahead...give us your honest opinion of Dunlop tires. Don't hold anything back now Plummen! LOL

Here's the info.
Rear: 400H-18 K87 DUNLOP K87
Front: 350H-18 F6 DUNLOP GOLD SEAL

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

i got put on my ass by bikes swapping ends with those junk tires more than once when i was young and spunky,then i discovered the metzeler me99! :laugh:

i had metzeler me33 laser front on my gs1150(1198) and a metz on the back...dont remember the model.....great rubber....

i ran the blackwall version for years,they also had similar version to match the front years ago :(

Those are the tires I really liked but you can't get them anymore. The ME88 looks good but is too hard...made for a touring bike and uses harder rubber compound. I always try to find a ME33 for the front no matter what I use on the rear though. Miss that ME99 though. One good looking and good gripping tire. Good tires for these bikes are drying up each year. Getting harder and harder to find good ones.

I've got a set Avons on my 78 and they seem to work fine. Unless the bike is a trohy never to be ridden, forget the vintage rubber, it's just not worth it.

Thanks for the info. My friend restores bike, just harleys and triumph so far. This is his first asian bike. He will restore to original. The owner can then do what he wants after that. Again thanks for the info, I can always count on the members of this site.

The Dunlop website shows a F11 tire that looks very much like the old Gold Seal but they only show a front tire. Good luck...
