Replacing Brakes was created by 9am53
I swapped out my LTD bars for some drag bars last night, and they are soooo much better! Only thing is that my giant master cylinder is going ot have to go, I need more room on the right handlebar side. I was thinking of something like this, it has a more modern sportbike look and it is MUCH narrower so I can fit everything on the bar.

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...n%3D2&category=35615

The fitting doesn't look like a normal banjo type fitting, has anyone used anyhthing like this before?

Secondly I want to run new brake lines and skip out the block where they meet on the triple tree. Can I run a brake line from the m/c straight down to the right caliper and use the "double" banjo bolt from the splitter to split another line and run it over the fender to the left caliper? Would this give uneven brakeing and pad wear?

it is a really big master not in size but in fluid movement. i'd use the one below it the set up with your brake lines from the picture i have in my head with cause on caliper to engauge before the other all most like a progressive system that splitter alows the brake pressure to come in evenly on both calipers.

I originally considered this one, but it says that it is for ONE calipre only, so I figured since I have 2 I should get the bigger one. Do you have any clue that the fitting beside the fluid reservoire fitting is for?

I guess I will stick with the splitter. How would I hook up a brake light switch with this?

EDIT: I just found some banjo bolt style brake light switches on eBay, I guess I would just connect the leads from that to my existing leads...clever!

i don't know why it would be for a single caliper the bore size is big enough for two of our calipers and that fitting is a bleeder for the master cylinder i wish they all came with that. as for your brake light switch it should have a switch built right in to it they didn't fool around when they copied the brembo's right down to the logo. i'd be leery about buying one of those where do you get parts if you ever need to do a rebuild.

As far as parts I always find what I need at Z1E, but for the master cylinder I need something smaller, so the stock one is too big. I have been looking for used ones from sportbikes, but they all are going for over a hundred bucks...for USED m/c. if you have any suggestions where I can get a decent quality m/c that will be narrow enough, and not break the bank I would love to hear it! I am finding that my budget for my winter project is kind of not going to happen, I need a new m/c to fit my handlebar, I don't want a cheapo it that will fail, I also unfortunately can't afford something really nice.

I looked a little harder and found a few used late model sportbike m/c in good shape for a hundred bucks including shipping, so I am going to get one of those...thanks for talking me out of the crappy inferior ones...for a 50 dollar difference peace of mind wins over cheapskate-ness. I will just need to get some new brake lines and I think I will re-use the splitter block

yes that m/c was some cheap knock off made in thailand or china so who knows if would get here or what kind of shape would it be in if even did get here and you have basicly no recourse with this kind of item.

One where the banjo comes off the front might give you the clearance you need. Looks up masters for a Ninja EX 500 / 250.

good idea tachrev...these are the ones I was looking at:

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...me=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

and if it goes for more than 70 bucks then I will get this one

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...me=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

I realize these are going to be very powerfull masters, so I am looking forward to one finger stopping! I am going to have to figure out what to do with my right hand mirror though, I don't want bar end mirrors, so we'll see
