What are you guys using?
I never used the Motion Pro Tool and am wondering if it does the job or if the factory tool is the way to go?

I second Roy...I have both and no longer use the Motion Pro tool. Once you get the hang of the factory tool...it is very easy to use...of course, the same could probably be said for the Motion Pro tool...

With the Motion Pro tool, I ignore the "lever" and use only the "batwing" by depressing the bucket with the cam lobe (instead of the lever), then holding the batwing in position to catch the bucket edge while turning the cam lobe away.

After replacing the shim, turn the lobe to depress the bucket and allow removal of the batwing.

Requires a little fiddling to get the knack, but then it's quick and easy with just the batwing.

Good Luck! :)

What Patton said, except I threw the lever away, it just pissed me off too much but the batwing works well

My dad had an old shim changing tool (just like the modern Motion Pro tool), but the "batwing" was long gone, so I ordered a new tool and I used both of the levers together to depress the bucket. I'd slip one between the lobe and shim as far as it'd go and pry to depress the lifter a bit, then insert the other lever and do the same thing, alternating until the bucket is compressed far enough to get the holder in place.

I never used the factory tool, but I suspect it probably works better.

I use plastic zip ties. Take a zip tie and fold in half and put a small bend at the end then pull out the spark plugs and put the zip tie down in the hole with the cam lobe down to open the valve. Now rotate the motor with a wrench and the zip tie will keep the valve down so you can remove the shim. It works like a charm and is very inexpensive and you can use two hands for shim removal.

I use a cotter pin removal tool pointy screwdriver with hook works very well because thats what I have in my box but I am sure factory tools work better as they usually do but I might try the zip-tye method next time sounds interesting;)
