Do you have a camera so you can post pictures?

My bikes have two kinds of caps one that has a square fitting and one that i have to make a tool for removal by welding two bolts together.

I'm sure you can do a search and answer a lot of the questions you have. Roy

I believe you push it down and pull the snap ring out and then it comes out.

Those look exactly like the top plugs on my old 79 kz400.
The easiest way I found to pull the plugs was to get one person to push down on the plug with a big phillips head screw driver. The other person slips a thin bladed regular screwdriver under one end of the snapring and lifts it out so you can grip it with a pair of needlenose pliers. Gently pull up while pulling the end worked for me for the removal.

If you aren't planning on pulling the front shocks, you might want to consider flushing the shocks; just put the lower plugs back in, add some oil and rock up and down on the front a couple of times to loosen things up (don't look down the tubes while doing this....don't ask. Then drain.

My 82 kz750 manual says to use 10W oil in the shocks. I think next year I'll go to 15W or 20W, 'cause they're a little soft and I'm not too big (170 lbs).

The manual should give the amount of oil to use and how to check to see if there's enough. Good Luck!
